BEN FALES, General Manager
Ben Fales is General Manager of BYU Music Group. He is responsible for guiding overall activities for BYUMG’s two record labels, its music publishing arm, and its merchandising division.
While Mr. Fales is a singer/songwriter at heart, he began his music career as an intern in the Tantara Records office, learning the record business from the bottom rungs of the ladder—shipping and receiving. In 2002, Mr. Fales earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (songwriting/production emphasis) and Business Management minor from Brigham Young University. Shortly after graduation, Mr. Fales was selected from a national search as Operations Manager of Tantara Records. While working concurrently as Operations Manager of Tantara Records, Mr. Fales began BYU’s Executive MBA program in 2009, which he completed in 2011. In 2010 Mr. Fales was promoted to General Manager of Tantara Records. In late 2011, Mr. Fales initiated and drove the development of BYU Music Group, an organization that would come to include BYU’s original record label, Tantara Records, as well several other of Mr. Fales’ initiatives. Namely: - BYU Records, a new record label specifically focused on recording and promoting BYU School of Music ensembles/groups - Tantara Music Publishing, a new music publishing division focused on publishing compositions of BYU School of Music faculty composers as well as other related composers - BYU Music Merchandising, a new merchandising division focused on creating, marketing, and distributing merchandise such as t-shirts, hats, etc. in order drive awareness and interest in BYU School of Music student ensembles/groups Mr. Fales’ passion for music, understanding of sound business practices, and creativity has enabled him to effectively drive the growth of BYU Music Group, including worldwide distribution and consumption of the great music created by BYU School of Music recording artists as well as other related artists.
